Progress Reports

We have arrived at the midpoint of our first trimester.  If you have not been tracking your child's progress so far, I highly encourage you to log on to Parent Connect to check your child's grades.  If you are unsure of how to do so, a link to a slide show with helpful information can now be found under the Parents section of the Center Cass website.

Please remember that the grades you view are an indication of how your child has performed so far during the first trimester.  These grades can easily change over the course of the next few weeks.  If your child is doing well, be sure to praise them, but also encourage them to continue working hard.  If there are some areas your child can improve in, try setting a reasonable short term goal in that area to work towards.  This may help inspire your child to improve in their trouble areas.  As always, if you have any specific questions or concerns that I can help with, please feel free to contact me.

Curriculum Updates:

Reading:  We continue to focus on the structure of stories, or in other words, narrative text.  We will focus on being able to identify the main characters, setting (when & where story takes place), and the plot.  The plot will include the problem, a summary of the beginning, middle, and end of the story, and finally the resolution of the problem.  We'll also be studying analogies more in-depth this week.

Math: I have been exceptionally pleased with the progress the students are showing with long division!  We will spend this next week learning about how to interpret remainders when solving word problems, as well as review estimating quotients using compatible numbers and more long division practice.  Students should expect a quiz on these lessons on Friday.  Also, students received the October calendar math sheet.  Please remember that they should be getting help/guidance on these sheets.  This is one of the ways that we review previously learned skills in order to keep them fresh.  October calendars will be due at the beginning of November.
