Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences are being held during the week of November 28th.  In order to touch base with all my parents, I will be attending the conference you have scheduled with your child's homeroom teacher.  I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your child's progress at this time.

Happy Thanksgiving!
I also want to take this opportunity to wish all of my students and their families a very Happy Thanksgiving!  I am thankful for so many things in life, and working at Prairieview with my students is just one of them.  I hope that you all enjoy the "mini vacation" over the next 5 days.  I know I'll be spending my time eating good food, watching football, and visiting with some good friends from out of town.  Still not sure if I will brave the shopping crowds on Black Friday!  No matter what you do on your break, please have fun and be safe!

Curriculum Updates:

Reading:  Now that we are finished with our realistic novel study, we move back into learning and reviewing more reading skills.  This week, we will be working on using prior knowledge to set a purpose for reading.  Basically, this means we want students to be cognizant of what they might already know about a topic, and how that may help them understand why they are reading a given text.  We will also be discussing author's purpose.  We use the acronym PIE to help remember why an author may write a text: to Persuade, to Inform, or to Entertain. This is an easy skill to practice at home together by looking through a newspaper or magazine, and reading the different articles to determine the author's purpose.

Math: We are continuing our study of mean, median, mode, and range.  Students will be reviewing these four skills when they return, and then take an assessment about it.
