Prairieview and Lakeview have teamed up to compete against Lace School and Eisenhower Junior High to see who can do a better job of smashing out cancer! During the week of January 23rd-27th, each school will be selling paper "fists" for a donation of $1. The fist can then be personalized by writing the name of a person whose life has been touched by cancer in some way. The fists will then be hung on the walls of our school to show off how well our school is smashing cancer. The school district that sells the most fists will be declared the winner. The losing schools' principals will have to wear the winning schools' spirit wear for a day! All proceeds of this contest will be donated to the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, which is a resarch center that is dedicated to finding a cure for all types of cancer.
Let's get ready to SMASH OUT CANCER!!!
Curriculum Updates:
Reading: This week, we continue our focus on the skill of Author's Viewpoint. In this skill, students will identify how the author feels about the topic they are writing about, as well as indicate words, phrases, or sentences in the text that help to "reveal" this viewpoint. This skill provides excellent practice in using the text to support their answers. We will also be reviewing the familiar skill of prediction as well.
Math: We continue with our focus on geometry. Students will be reviewing the many geometric concepts and definitions, such as point, line, line segment, ray, and angles for a quiz on Tuesday. Then, we will continue working through the unit, learning about circles, similar, congruent, and symmetry. Our week will end with a creative project to help visualize symmetry even better!
