Weekly Newsletter 8/31-9/4

Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: This week, we will focus on the skill of summarizing, as well as learn about our Word Work routine.

Science: Students will begin our exploration of our first unit, Patterns of Earth and Sky.  In the first chapter, students will focus on understanding why we don't see a lot of stars during the daytime.

Social Studies: We will not start Social Studies until after Labor Day!

Advanced Math: This week, students will log in and learn about the Digits program that we will use for Math this year.  In addition, they will also take the Topic 1 Pretest, which focuses on Variables and Expressions.  We will wrap up the week with analyzing our performance on the pretest, engaging in goal setting, and learning how to play a game called The Multiple Game.

Important Info:

MAP Testing

You should have received an email regarding MAP testing, which we will do next week.  Please encourage your child to do their best so that we can get an accurate view of their current levels of performance.  This is extremely critical this year, as we are working to identify any gaps in learning that may have occurred between the spring and. now.  Though these assessments are important, I aim to ensure students do not feel extreme pressure with taking these tests.  They are truly a snapshot, but can provide beneficial information as well.  I appreciate your support in helping students be prepared for these upcoming test dates!

Schedule of Events
  • Monday, August 31st: Math MAP Test, 9:30AM
  • Thursday, September 3rd: Reading MAP Test, 9:30AM
