Here's What's Happening...
English/Language Arts: This week, students will begin the process of gathering information for their informational writing piece. They will complete a brainstorming activity using post-it notes, which will then be organized into categories. Then, they will learn about how to take notes from resources, and practice doing so. After that, they will write a flash draft. This will be followed by a mini lesson about using maps and map features to make inferences, as well as an exploration of hurricane vocabulary. We wrap up the week by using the inferences made from the maps to add more details to our informational flash draft.
Social Studies: We will be moving on to Chapter 6, Lesson 2, which focuses on Cities, Towns, and Farms. Students will read the lesson, and engage in note taking. They will also work on comparing and contrasting to show the similarities and differences between life in cities, towns, and farms. There will be a graded checkpoint activity on Friday.
Advanced Math: Our attention shifts this week to multiplying mixed numbers. Our week begins with learning how to model these situations. Then, they will learn how to do the standard algorithm, as well as how to apply the distributive property to multiplying mixed numbers. The week will wrap up with applying their skills to problem solving situations. There will be a Homework Review on this material next week!

Return from the Adaptive Pause
I am excited to welcome back our Panthers who have selected in-person learning. For those remaining remote, I'm excited to have you join us on screen! There were a few tweaks to our schedule, so you can access our new schedule by clicking HERE. In general, our morning session runs from 8:30-12:00. Lunch break is from 12-1, and then our afternoon fully remote session runs from 1-3pm. If your child is joining us in-person, please remember to complete the self-certification slip each morning, your child wears a mask, and send an extra mask in their backpack just in case! We will still be heading outside as much as possible for PE and a mask break, so please make sure your child dresses appropriately! Looking forward to continuing our amazing school year together!
