newsletter 4/19-4/23

Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: Students will wrap up our stations that we began at the end of last week.  They will also continue practice with Word Work List 9 words.  Due to IAR testing, we will not have a large focus on ELA this week.

Science: This week, we will review their thoughts about a new set of data they analyzed at the end of last week.  Then, we will move on to continue expanding our understanding of nutrients, decomposers, and the ecosystem.  We will wrap up the week with the opportunity to practice writing another scientific argument.

Social Studies: We move on to the last lesson in Chapter 8, which focuses on Paul Revere's ride, the Shot Heard Round the World (Battles of Lexington & Concord), and The Battle of Bunker Hill.  Students will be given the opportunity to select which of these three topics they are most interested in, and they will be responsible for creating sequence notes for their topic.  They will have the opportunity to collaborate with others to share their findings and hear the findings of others.  We will wrap up the week with a checkpoint on Lesson 3.

Advanced Math: We will finish Topic 9 this week, by focusing on Rational Numbers and the Coordinate Plane, Distance & Polygons, and Problem Solving.  We will review on Thursday, and students will have the Topic 9 test on Friday.  Since we have IAR testing this week, students will be allowed to use their notes and resources for the test on Friday.
