Here's What's Happening...
English/Language Arts: Students will continue the jigsaw activity to learn about the events during westward expansion, leading to Manifest Destiny. They will then complete a vocabulary activity to prepare for reading two different texts about Manifest Destiny - the argument FOR Manifest Destiny and the argument AGAINST Manifest Destiny. On Friday, they will work in groups to gather evidence for a given side and present it to their classmates. Then, they will select which side they would like to be on, and do some research to gather evidence for a piece of argument writing. In addition, they will work on Word Work List 10 Slides this week!
Social Studies: Students will work together in groups to create a presentation about the most important information from a section of the reading in Chapter 9, Lesson 1. They will share this presentation with the class in order for students to take notes. We will also do a fun activity involving breakup letters and texts! Students will complete a checkpoint of Ch.9, L.1 on Wednesday. Then, we will move on to Ch. 9, L.2, which discusses some of the battles of the American Revolution, as well as the contributions of African Americans and Women in the war.
Advanced Math: We will wrap up Topic 10 this week by applying our ratio skills to problem solving situations. Then they will engage in activities to review the skills in Topic 10. The Topic 10 test will be on Thursday!
Important Info:
MAP Testing This Week!
Next up on our assessment agenda is the MAP tests. Students will take the Math MAP test on Wednesday and the Reading MAP test on Thursday. As always, I just want the kiddos to try their best and give their best effort. I appreciate your help in making sure they rest well and have a good breakfast!
PRIDE Winner!
Congratulations to Alexa, who was the April PRIDE! award winner for Improvement!
Donuts!
Earlier in the school year, our class discussed things that could be seen as an "upside" to the COVID quarantine. I shared that one of my upsides was having the time to expand my baking skills, including making my own donuts. I promised the class that at some point this school year, I would make donuts for them. I made good on my promise on Friday, and they were very well received!
