Newsletter 5/17-5/21

Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: This week, students will plan and organize their information for the Manifest Destiny Argument writing, and then write their first draft of their argument essay.  Depending on how the week goes, they may have the chance to do some revision, or it will be something they do next week!  In addition to argument writing, students will review Word Work List 10 in order to prepare for the Word Work List 10 quiz on Thursday.

Science: Students will learn about food scientists and the types of work that they do.

Social Studies: We will wrap up Ch. 9, L.2 this week by using the GISTs that our small groups wrote in order to create notes for the lesson.  Then, we will participate in an activity called Quiz, Quiz, Trade, where students will have the opportunity to quiz each other using questions that their classmates made.  There will be a checkpoint on Chapter 9, Lesson 2 on Tuesday.  Then we will move on to Chapter 9, Lesson 3, which focuses on how the American Revolution ended!

Advanced Math: Students will engage in reflection about their Topic 10 test, and then we are going to dive right in to Topic 11, which focuses on rates.  Students will learn about unit rates, unit prices, and constant speed (distance = rate x time).  We will fit a Homework Review in on Friday for these three skills!
