Newsletter 10/11-10/15

Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: We didn't get to writing about our small moments last week, so that is where we will begin on Wednesday.  Students will also learn about story structure and how to analyze a story to determine its introduction, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.  We will also begin Word Work List 4 by completing the word sort and definition sheet.

Science: Students will continue to explore to find the answer to the question "Why is the sun up sometimes, but not other times?"  This week, they will take part in a model called "Mount Nose", as well as read the text entitled "Which Way Is Up?"  They will complete the anticipation guide for this text as well.

Social Studies: Students will review their  performance on the Chapter 4 test and complete a reflection sheet, which will come home for your review.  Please sign and return the sheet so I know you had a chance to review your learner's reflection.  They will also have the opportunity to make improvements on their test in order to learn and grow from their mistakes.

Advanced Math:  Students will have the opportunity to complete an error analysis for their Unit 1 Test on Wednesday. We will also begin one of the students' favorite Number Corner activities - the October Calendar collector activity, which involves collecting data about the mass of two different carrots. We will round out the week by starting our next unit, which focuses on ratios. The first two lessons are designed to help students develop an understanding of what a ratio is.

Side Note: Be sure to check PowerSchool for an updated look at your learner's grades, as the additional assignments have been added.

Important Info:

Halloween Festivities!
Though it will look a little different, we are so excited to be able to have a Halloween Party and Parade this year!  The Halloween Party will not involve any food or drinks this year, and will focus on crafts and games that allow for students to maintain safe distance.  We are still waiting on final details regarding costumes and the parade, and I will pass those along once I get them.  Please remember that costumes should be school appropriate, and should not include any type of weapon or extremely gory content.

Conferences!
You should have received an email from me this weekend regarding signing up for a fall conferrence with me.  If you didn't get it, please contact me so I can send it to you again.  If you do not find a time on the sign up page that works for you, please reach out and we can schedule a different time that works.
