Here's What's Happening...
English/Language Arts: The first skill we tackle in Unit 2 is understanding the difference between plagiarism and paraphrasing. We present a strategy called The Four Rs, which gives students a structure to follow when paraphrasing a text. This is a critical skill, as students will need to use it throughout this unit, and especially during our informational writing unit. Speaking of our informational writing unit, students will engage in a brainstorming activity using Post It notes. They will use these to capture what they know about natural disasters, and then will group their ideas together. We will also start Word Work List 8 this week!
Social Studies: Students will spend a majority of this week working in their groups on their colony project!
Advanced Math: We will wrap up Unit 4 this week, as we finish our exploration of finding area using fractional length, and move into finding volume using fractional lengths as well. The Unit 4 test will be on Wednesday. We will spend the rest of the week preparing for our student led conferences. Please remember to sign up for a conference if you haven't already done so!
Important Info:
Valentines Information!
Students will be allowed to exchange Valentine cards this year. If they choose to bring Valentines, they must bring a Valentine for every student in our class. They may also bring in a packaged treat to give to their classmates as well. These treats will not be opened during school, but rather sent home for the students to enjoy. Please note that we do have students with nut allergies in our class, so please be mindful of this if you purchase treats. I will also send home a class list of student names if students want to address their Valentines.
