Newsletter 9/26-9/30

Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: We are truly learning as we go with our new resource, Into Reading!  We found that our writing and grammar lessons took a little longer than expected, so we are continuing writing and grammar this week.  We are also hoping to get started on our next text, entitled "Winds of Hope."  We will focus on monitoring and clarifying as we read, as well as learning about different text structures.

Science: We begin taking a look at how to write a scientific argument this week.  This includes making a claim, providing evidence to back up their claim, and ending with a conclusion.

Social Studies: We will get started on our early exploration unit by taking a look at the journeys of Christopher Columbus.  Students will be exposed to multiple texts about his voyages and will utilize the information they find in order to answer the question: Should Columbus be viewed as a hero or a villain?

Advanced Math:  We continue our exploration of surface area, with students taking a Checkpoint on this content on Wednesday.  We will wrap up the week with some time to begin working on their Take It To Go project.  We will be looking at a test on Unit 1 the first week of October.
