Newsletter 9/19-9/23

Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: This week, we will focus our efforts on writing and grammar skills.  Students will be introduced to the idea of expository text and what a thesis statement is.  They will read a focal text entitled "Girls Think of Everything" and use this to gather words that are related to inventions.  Then we will discuss the writing process and begin the first step of prewriting.  Grammar lessons will focus on complete sentences - being able to identify subjects and predicates, as well as fragments and run-ons.

Science: We are still working on reading "Matter Makes It All Up" and completing the anticipation guide.

Social Studies: We will continue our exploration of the Five Themes of Geography this week.

Advanced Math:  This week, students will be introduced to the project for this unit, which is called "Take It To Go".  We will then engage in some lessons about surface area, which is a skill they need in order to be successful at the project.
