Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: We will begin our week by taking the Growth Measure Assessment, which is a component of our new resource that will help track student progress throughout the year.  On Tuesday, students will learn about context clues and apply these skills to learn our critical vocabulary words for our text this week, "The Inventor's Secret."  Then we will move on to learn about summarizing, author's purpose, & point of view and apply these with the text.  We will wrap up the week with a selection quiz about "The Inventor's Secret" and spiral back to the skill of central idea.

Science: Students will get to read our first trade book for Ecosystem Restoration, entitled "Matter Makes It All Up."  They will also complete an anticipation guide, which presents students with various statements connected to the text and they have to agree or disagree with the statements.  They do this once before reading, and then they go back after reading and do it again, but this time they must provide text evidence to support why they agree or disagree.  They will also play a game called Eat or Be Eaten!

Social Studies: We will continue our exploration of the Five Themes of Geography by completing a jigsaw activity as well as a sorting activity.

Advanced Math:  Students did a great job on their first checkpoint!  We got started on learning about the area of triangles, and will continue to do so this week.  We also work on finding the area of complex figures, which requires students to utilize the skills they have learned so far in order to separate those figures into ones that are easier to work with.  On Thursday, we will review the skills from the first eight lessons in preparation for a quiz on Friday.
