Here's What's Happening...
English/Language Arts: We didn't get to the introduction to the first module of our new ELA Resource, Into Reading, so we will do that on Tuesday. Module 1 is called Inventors at Work! We will also learn about finding the central idea of a text and do some practice with this skill.
Social Studies: Our class is doing a fabulous job with primary and secondary sources! We have had some great debates about how to classify some resources, which has truly stretched our thinking! We will wrap up this skill and then start learning about the five themes of geography.
Advanced Math: The students will begin next week with a review day for finding the area of irregular shapes and parallelograms. This will help them be prepared for our first graded assignment on Wednesday, which is a checkpoint that covers the first 4 lessons in Desmos. For this checkpoint, students will be allowed to use their resources to help them if needed (notes, homework sheets, classwork sheets), but I always encourage them to review the material to make sure they are familiar with it. Then, we will move on to exploring how to find the area of triangles. Just like the parallelograms, we will spend some time doing activities to help understand how the standard algorithm/formula works.
