Newsletter 5/15-5/19

Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: This week, we continue our work on the last text in Module 4, which is called "A Pioneer Sampler: The Daily Life of a Pioneer Family in 1840."  Students will review story elements and point of view, as well as learn about varieties of English, or the use of dialect.  They will take the selection quiz for this text at the end of the week.

Science: Students will read a text called "Break It Down: How Scientists Separate Mixtures."  They will complete the anticipation guide for this text and use their knowledge to make necessary revisions to their Chromatography models.

Social Studies: Students will learn about the Townshend Act & complete a checkpoint for Ch.8, Lesson 1.  Then we will move on to Lesson 2, which discusses the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, and the Intolerable Acts.

Advanced Math:   We will finish learning about using tables, equations, and graphs to represent relationships.  Then we will review the concepts from Unit 6 in order to be prepared for a test on either Thursday or Friday this week.

Important Info:

Lakeview Transition Time!
On Monday afternoon, students from the Lakeview Leadership Team will be visiting our classroom to present the first part of introducing the fifth graders to Lakeview.  The leadership students will share a video and slide show, answer any initial questions students may have, and then arrange them into small groups to prepare for the tour.  The Lakeview tour will take place on Tuesday afternoon.  We hope these events will help make students feel more comfortable as they begin their transition to junior high!

Fifth Grade Friendzy!
On Friday, May 19th, fifth grade students are invited to stay after school for the Fifth Grade Friendzy!  This PTO sponsored event gives the students a chance to celebrate their years at PV with pizza, ice cream, and a DJ!  Families are invited to come to the gym between 4:15-4:30pm to take pictures.  This is always a fun event and a great way to begin the end of year celebrations!

10 Day Countdown!
I can't believe it, but our 10 day countdown to the end of school begins on Tuesday!  Here are the spirit days for the last 10 days of school:

 Photo Corner!
The students enjoyed the King's M&M's Activity, Queen Emily & her Parliament members, Dominik & Mikaella placed a series of taxes on the colonists. The tax collectors, Aiden & Alex had to collect the taxes from the colonists (the rest of the class), who were not very happy about having to pay them!

We had a wonderful VIP day!
