Newsletter 5/8-5/12

Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: This week, we will work on the last text in Module 4, which is called "A Pioneer Sampler: The Daily Life of a Pioneer Family in 1840."  Students will work on the important vocabulary from the lesson, as well as learn about retelling and flashbacks, and review story elements.

Science: Students will create their own digital models of chromatography.

Social Studies: We will get started on our American Revolution unit by participating in an activity called "The Kings M&Ms."  Students will complete a reflection about this activity.  They will also get started on their digital flip book about the major events that lead to the start of the Revolutionary War.

Advanced Math:   We will do a quick review of exponents on Monday and take a checkpoint focused on exponents.  Then we will move forward and learn about using tables, equations, and graphs to represent relationships.

Important Info:

MAP Testing this week!
Students will take the end of year MAP tests this week.  They will take the Math MAP test in their Math classroom on Tuesday, and then the Reading MAP test in our homeroom on Wednesday.  As always, I just want them to do their best work.  You can help out at home by also encouraging the same, and making sure they have a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast.

Photo Corner!

A new month meant a new morning routine theme...and the students traced it again!

Students enjoyed reading their WIN novels on the playground on Wednesday!

Congratulations to Mikey, who was the April PRIDE! winner for Empathy!

We also got a chance to celebrate Alex & Jaclyn, who were selected as the 5th Grade representatives for the Illinois Principal's Association breakfast. These two students were chosen because they met the criteria of being someone who could win every PRIDE! award, every month. We are SO proud of you both!
