Newsletter 10/26-10/30

Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: This week, we will continue our narrative writing by focusing on dreaming the dream of the story.  This lesson helps students realize that they need to tell their story so that readers will experience it, not just know about it.  We will also focus on the skill of theme this week, especially on finding evidence to support the theme of a text.  Finally, students will practice for and take the Word Work List 3 Quiz Thursday.

Science: We will read our next trade book, entitled Dog Days of Summer.  Students will be asked to agree and disagree with statements about the book, and then provide evidence to show why they agree or disagree with them.  They will also begin identifying more constellations on the broken artifact that our unit centers around.

Social Studies: We have completed all three lessons in Chapter 4, so it is now time to prepare for the Chapter 4 test.  We will spend a couple days this week reviewing, and students will take the test on Friday!

Advanced Math: This week, students will learn about Greatest Common Factor (GCF) and Least Common Multiple (LCM).  They will learn two different methods for these skills.  The first is the listing factors/multiples method.  The second is using prime factorization.  These skills can get tricky, so there will be multiple practice opportunities this week!

Important Info:

Halloween Activities!
Like nearly everything in 2020, our Halloween festivities will be a little different this year, but we will still celebrate!  First of all, students will be allowed to wear their costume to school on Friday, October 30th.  Please be sure the costume is school appropriate, and does not include anything that could be construed as a weapon.  Next, though there will not be an in-person Halloween parade, there will be a virtual one!  Mr. Pagel will make the rounds through the classrooms at PV in order to take a video of everyone in costume!  Finally, there will not be classroom Halloween parties, but students will still participate in Halloween activities provided by the teacher.  We know it won't be exactly the same, but we are so happy we will still be able to celebrate together!

Schedule of Events
