Here's What's Happening...
English/Language Arts: We will finish up the stations for "A Boy Called Slow" on Monday, and then move to a writing lesson that teaches students how to tell the story from inside of it. Then, students will complete a vocabulary activity for our next text, entitled "Teammates". They will also learn about four different uses of commas: Commas in a Series, Commas in Introductory Phrases, Commas in Direct Address, and Commas in Tag Questions. They will engage in a variety of activities to practice these four types of commas. We will also introduce the concept of perspective and do some practice with that skill.
Social Studies: We had a chance to review the skill of cause and effect last week. Now we will move forward into using cause and effect skills to learn about the lost colony of Roanoke. Students will engage in some research in order to develop a claim about what happened in the colony of Roanoke and support their claim with evidence.
Advanced Math: This week, students will finish up the lesson we started on Friday, which was all about applying ratios that FEMA uses for disaster preparedness to cities with varying populations. Then, we will work on solving multi-step problems and solving equivalent ratio problems. Students will complete a check point on Thursday, and then finish the week by learning about part-part-whole ratios.
Important Info:
Book Project Check In!
Students should plan to finish reading their book by Thanksgiving Break. We will be learning about the final skills from the unit this week and practicing them into next week. Hopefully they are utilizing the book prohect organizer packet that was given to them a couple weeks ago. If not, please encourage them to do so. If they cannot find it, have them ask me for another copy!
I will plan to have their final project due the second week of December. I will post the Google Slide document they need to complete for the final copy before Thanksgiving break, as well as provide a cupy of the rubric that will be used to grade the project.
