Newsletter 2/20-2/24

Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: We move on to our next selection in Module 3, which is entitled "Quaking Earth, Racing Waves."  We will begin with our vocabulary work as always, and then move on to reviewing summarizing again.  As students read this text, they will be looking for numbers and stats that help them understand the text better.  We will also work on multiple meaning words.

Science: Students will read two different case studies in order to learn more about how nutrients affect plants.  They will be determining the problem in the ecosystem and how nutrients play a role in the restoration plan.

Social Studies: Students will begin their colony project by setting group norms and discussing group roles.  Then they will begin brainstorming ideas for the various components of the project.

Advanced Math:   We will wrap up Unit 4 with error analysis for the Unit 4 test, as well as selecting one artifact to showcase at home.  Please watch for your learner to bring this home, and be sure to return the sheet with a parent signature!  We will then move on to Unit 5, which focuses on Decimal Arithmetic.  We will begin with reviewing adding and subtracting decimals.

Important Info:

TGFD Week 2

In week 2, Corporal Albright taught the students about choices and how all choices have positive and negative consequences.  They engaged in a series of activities to practice determining multiple choices for scenarios and then listing the positive and negative consequences of those choices.  Their homework this week asks you to sit down together and come up with some choices for a given scenario, and then list the positive and negative consequences for those choices.  You will then decide upon a choice and state why you think it is the best choice for you.  I hope you enjoy this opportunity to connect with your learner!  Please remember to sign and return the homework page by Thursday!
