Newsletter 5/16-5/20

Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: Students will finish their third article this week and put the finishing touches on this project.  We will also review Word Work List 11 words and word parts in order to prepare for a quiz on Wednesday.

Science: This week, students will use the sim to investigate how nutrients affect the soil.  They will then read some case studies to evaluate the important role nutrients play in restoration plans.

Social Studies: We move on to the second lesson in Chapter 8, which focuses on the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, and the Intolerable Acts.  It also continues to show how these events influence the colonies to come together, but also leads to colonists having differing opinions about the response towards Britain.  We will focus on taking Sequence Chain notes again.

Advanced Math:  We will wrap up this unit with the final section, where students learn about different ways of representing relationships, such as using tables, equations, and graphs.  Students will engage in lessons Monday through Wednesday, then we will spend Thursday reviewing so they are prepared for a test on Friday.

TGFD Graduation Information!

A reminder that our Too Good for Drugs Graduation Ceremony is taking place on Thursday, May 19th at 1pm in the Prairieview Gym. I hope you can join us that day, but if you can't, please try to do something special to your learner's accomplishment!

Students should plan to dress appropriately for this event. We encourage them to be comfortable, but nicely dressed. A nice pair of pants and a top will work. They don't have to be super fancy (unless they want to be!)

10 Day Countdown starts Tuesday!

We will have a series of spirit days to count down the last 10 days of the school year! Here are this week's themes:

Tuesday, Day 10: Wear 10 of something!

Wednesday, Day 9: Work it out Wednesday - We will get some extra steps in today!

Thursday, Day 8: Take a Flight - We will make paper airplanes and see whose flies furtherst

Friday, Day 7: Friday Favorite - Wear something that is your favorite, or bring your favorite stuffed animal or book
