Newsletter 12/5-12/9

Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: We will continue our work with "Airborn", focusing on how to synthesize ideas in the text to improve comprehension, as well as identifying literary elements, figurative language, and analyzing character perspective.  Students will take a selection quiz on this text towards the end of the week.  If time allows, we will also get started on vocabulary for our next text, "The Secret Garden."

Science: Students will share their ideas for where they believe energy comes from in an ecosystem, based upon what they viewed in the Sim, as well as looking at a food web.  Then, we will turn our attention to reading a restoration case study that occurred in Yellowstone National Park, and identifying the problem and solution from the text.

Social Studies: We will continue the first lesson of Chapter 5, learning about why England and Spain went to war, as well as learning about Jamestown.

Advanced Math:   In the second section of Unit 3, we shift our focus to working with Unit Rates.  In this section, students work to realize that each ratio relationship actually has two unit rates.  They will learn how to use each of those rates to solve problems.
