Here's What's Happening...
English/Language Arts: We continue working with our last story of Module 2, "The Poem That Will Not End" This week we will focus on elements of poetry, author's purpose, and theme. Students will take the selection quiz on Thursday. We will wrap up the week by investigating common and proper nouns.
Social Studies: We briefly turn our attention to two other countries who also wanted to colonize the Americas. Students will learn about the settlements created by the French and the Dutch.
Advanced Math: We will be tying up some loose ends this week with MAP testing and Unit 3 Analysis. Then, we begin Unit 4, which is foused around dividing fractions. We begin by making connections between multiplication and division situations and how to represent them using tape diagrams.
Important Info:
Midterm of Second Trimester
As you hopefully saw, the midterm of the second trimester was on Friday. This means we are officially half way through fifth grade! (WHAT?!?) This is a great time to do a check in with your learner and set some goals for the rest of the trimester, and perhaps even the rest of fifth grade. It's always important to remember that there are still six weeks left in the second trimester, and so there is plenty of opportunity to make changes and reach for those goals. Please reach out if you have any questions at all!
