Newsletter 3/13-3/17

Here's What's Happening...

English/Language Arts: We continue "Hurricanes: The Science Behind Killer Storms."  We will review synonyms and antonyms, text and graphic features, and learn about content area words.  Students will take the selection quiz at the end of the week!

Science: We will introduce our new unit, entitled Modeling Matter and if time allows, we will engage in a hands-on investigation to discover properties of matter.

Social Studies: Students will shift to working on the last component of the colony project, which is to create an informational video that will persuade others to locate to their colony!

Advanced Math:   We will spend the week focused on dividing decimals and then preparing for the next quiz, which students will take on Friday.  We will also introduce an independent project, where students will be creating an advertisement to convince others that purchasing a Desla Electric car is a smart choice.  This project will be due by March 24th.

Important Info:

TGFD Week 5

In week 5, students learned about positive friendship qualities.  Homework this week requires your learner to conduct an interview of an adult to learn about their view of friendships. Please remember to sign and return the homework page by Thursday!

ISA Testing

This week, students will be starting the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA).  This is a state assessment that evaluates how students are doing with meeting science standards.  These tests do not affect their grades and are not used to help with making decisions for Lakeview.  Even so, we ask students to give their best efforts, and you can help at home by making sure they get a good night's sleep and have a good breakfast in the morning.  The tests are not timed, but are expected to take approximately 45 minutes.  Here is our testing schedule for this week:

Tuesday, March 14th: 10-11am
Wednesday, March 15th: 9:30-10:30am
